Proper preparation is essential for every painting job, nothing will adhere to a dirty, wet or greasy surface, please also ensure that the surface is completely sound. Remove any old or flaking paint, mildew etc. Galvanised metal is often coated with oil to protect it, which must be cleaned with a solvent before painting.

What cleaners should be used?

Solvents: White spirit, thinners and alchohol are all solvents, these are used to remove oil or petroleum based contaminants.

Detergents: These are strong cleaners and are used to remove a variety of substrances including chalky surfaces and many stains, but can leave a residue/ Always rinse with clean water.

Bleach: Household bleach mixed with water (3 parts water to 1 part bleach) is useful to clean mildew etc. Always rinse with clean water.

Stain killing and blocking is very important when you have certain problems, but it should be remembered that stain blocking is not stain covering, what stain blockers do is to prevent the stain 'bleeding through' to the finish coat.

Don't be concerned that after using Zamix you can see some of the stain showing, the stain is 'blocked' and will normally not affect the finish.

Zamix Bonders and Primers have a coverage of 7½ - 8½ m²/Ltr (varies between products - check product pages for details), but coverage will vary depending on the surface the product is applied to.

Drying time (re-coat) is 45mins to 1hr (varies between products - check product pages for details) and drying times will vary depending on temperature. Allow 3hrs drying if overcoating with 2 pack or cellulose paint.

SuperPrime, SuperPrime Metal, CoverSeal and BlockOut can be used in temperatures as low as 3ºc. PrimeBond Extra should not be used in temperatures lower than 10ºc.
